Best Christmas markets in the UK 2017

Edinburgh city hall at christmas If you fancy popping over to the UK to visit one of the many Christmas markets, which are the best ones to visit? Compare Holiday Money Ireland did some research and here are a few places that stood out:

Bath.  Located next to and around the famous Abbey and Roman Baths, this award winning market features over 200 chalets selling a range of Christmas gifts and food with plenty of entertainment on offer. This market closes on December 10th though so that the local shops get a chance to trade up to Christmas.

Edinburgh. The Scottish capital is one of the most festive cities with a host of seasonal entertainment and events including a Xmas tree maze! It has two traditional Christmas markets well worth a visit.

Birmingham. Hosts the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria. You will find Pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts and of course wonderful warming gluhwein. You will probably still need British pounds though!

London. There are several markets in London and one of the best, although with 50 stalls not the biggest, is on the Southbank by the London Eye. It spreads up by the river with great views of the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, St. Pauls Cathedral and many others and is within walking distance of many of the Capitals famous locations.

Winchester. Recognised as one of the best in the UK because of it’s unique location around the Historic Winchester Cathedral. With a host of chalets and entertainment it has an ice-rink set in the middle to amuse skaters and onlookers alike.

Belfast. This market is located around and inside Belfast’s iconic city hall. All the usual alpine style chalets including a gingerbread themed Santa’s grotto . They also have a buddy scheme to help visitors with additional accessibility requirements.
